Forestry

I know I’m late to this bandwagon, but I’ve not really needed to look at things like this before.

After not being able to help a friend with their Wix website and I’ve realised there could be a way I can make really light weight and cheap (but beautiful and accessible) websites for people.

It took almost no configuration with my existing Hugo site. All of the default settings were correct so it was just as case of checking them and pushing go on the server.

The only real part of configuration I need to do is to sort out the images, I tried to upload one directly from my phone (which would be good for my allotment diary website, I’ve been meaning to make for 5 years now) but there wasn’t any image treatment done so the image was the original file from my phone, making the page weight too large for my liking. It also wasn’t responsive by default so it didn’t fit on the screen well.

I’m sure it won’t take me long to resolve that, probably something I need to do whilst sat at the computer in the first instance.

Forestry is a nice simple CMS overlay to a simple website, I’m sure this could be useful for small businesses who occasionally need to point a potential customer at their work.

This, Hugo and Netlify combined equal a really nice website experience for editors with flexibility for those who know what they are doing. I’m a fan.
